Police perform last rites of elderly man as relatives refuse to show up in Odisha
In a poignant display of compassion, police officials of Khaprakhol police station in Odisha’s Bolangir district shouldered the responsibility of conducting the last rites of a 65-year-old elderly man.
SI Laxmidhar Swain, ASI Saban Kerketa, ASI Nabin Kumar Bhoi and homeguard Dharub Kumbhar displayed exemplary humanity by conducting the final rites of the elderly man whose body was completely decomposed.
The deceased has been identified as Nirakar Bariha of Benkera village under Khaprakhol police limits. According to sources, Nirakar had left his house on October 21 and had been missing since then. Despite frantic searches, family members failed to trace his whereabouts.
On Sunday, his decomposed body was found in a river near the village. As the body was completely decomposed, relatives and fellow villagers refused to carry the body and join in the final rites. Later, the police officials joined Nirakar’s son and took the body to a forest near the village and performed the last rites.
The noble deed of the police officials has been receiving praises from all quarters.
