Cyclone Dana: 98 per cent power restoration completed, says Odisha CM

Odisha CM Mohan Majhi announced 98% power restoration post-Cyclone Dana. Out of 22,84,000 affected consumers, power supply was restored to 22,32,000 consumers.

While the power supply to 22,84,000 consumers was snapped, the same has been restored for 22,32,000 consumers, said Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi on Sunday. 

Chief Minister Majhi reviewed the ongoing restoration work in the cyclone-affected areas following an aerial survey.

While briefing journalists, the Chief Minister informed a total of 22,84,000 electricity consumers were affected in the cyclone Dana. So far, power supply has been restored to 22,32,000 consumers and the same is yet to be restored to about 50,000 consumers, he said.

 “A total of 7,000 dedicated employees of the electricity department are working to restore the power supply. So far, 98 per cent of the power restoration work has been completed and water logging in low-lying areas has affected the restoration work,” he added.

Sharing information about people staying in cyclone shelters, he said over 8,00,000 people had taken shelter in 6,210 shelters. Almost all have returned to their respective houses after water receded. However, 30,000 families are still waiting in 470 shelters for the water to recede in their villages.
