A woman hailing from Ahmedabad, Gujarat attempts to take her own life inside a police station premises in Bhadrak district of Odisha. The woman, identified as Niral Modi, took the drastic step while alleging police inaction.
Frustrated with the alleged inaction of the police in searching for her husband, the woman consumed phenyl. Niral was married to Manoj Nayak, a man from Odisha’s Narasinghpur. She owns an IT firm where Manoj was employed, and they fell in love before eventually getting married. The couple has a two-year-old son.
As per reports, Nayak allegedly persuaded the woman to start another business in his hometown. Following which, Niral took a mortgage against her house and company assets and raised an amount of Rs 5 crore to fund the project.
After Niral arranged the amount, her husband allegedly took off with the money abandoning her and their toddler. Following this, she made multiple rounds to the police station requesting them to catch her husband.
Seeing no progress in the matter from the side of the police, she accused them of inaction and finally took the drastic step of consuming phenyl inside the premises of the police station in Bonth. She was rushed to the Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital.
Biral Modi, brother of the victim said, “My brother-in-law has been gone for over 90 days. Ever since then, my sister has been under tremendous stress, and today she tried to take her own life inside the premises of Bonth police station by consuming phenyl. This action was her desperate attempt to demand justice.”
“It is the duty of the police to help people in such situations. We demand justice and want the police to bring Manoj Nayak into custody soon,” he added further.
Meanwhile, the cops are still looking for Manoj Nayak and have searched various locations in relation to the case. No comments from the police could be obtained over the allegations.
