Planning Board to be restructured in line with NITI Aayog: Odisha CM

Odisha CM Mohan Majhi announces the restructuring of the State Planning Board in alignment with NITI Aayog. The move aims to enhance strategic planning, contrasting past BJD governance.

The State Planning Board will be reconstructed in line with the NITI Aayog. 

Chief Minister Mohan Majhi on Thursday informed this while replying to a query by BJP MLA Tankadhara Tripathy. 

In response to the query of Tripathy, the Chief Minister said for the reconstruction of the Planning Board, the government is already holding discussions with the experts. 

Taking a swipe at the previous BJD government, Chief Minister Majhi also pointed out that the Planning Board meeting was convened only twice over a span of 24 years during the rule of the previous government.

The said meeting was convened once in 2003 and, for the last time, it was again held in 2007, underscoring the need for a renewed and dynamic board.

The present government aims at expediting the reconstitution of the board to ensure more frequent and effective convening of meetings. Aligning the structure with the NITI Aayog is anticipated to enhance the strategic planning capabilities within the state.

Notably, the winter session of the 17th Odisha Legislative Assembly commenced on November 26 and will continue till December 31. As per the provisional calendar, 20 days have been allocated for official business and five days for private members’ business.

Besides Sundays, the Assembly will remain closed on December 25, Christmas Day.

The 17th Odisha Legislative Assembly was formed on June 4 following the declaration of election results. The BJP defeated the BJD, ending Naveen Patnaik’s 24-year-old reign.
