Patnagarh parcel bomb case: Exclusive video of Punjilal Meher recreating blast surfaces

In a significant turn of events in the infamous Patnagarh parcel bomb case in Bolangir district, an exclusive video of the accused Punjilal Meher recreating the blast surfaced on Thursday. Punjilal had earlier demonstrated the process of creating a parcel bomb to the erstwhile Inspector General (IG) of Odisha Crime Branch, Arun Bothra.

Exclusive video makes startling revelations

The demonstration, captured in a video now obtained by OTV, sees the accused Meher stating unequivocally, "This is how I made the parcel bomb." The footage had been submitted as evidence in court, with a verdict anticipated on May 28.

Punjilal, a former English lecturer known for his allegedly cunning ability, has revealed the ease with which such destructive devices can be created. Unlike a standard explosive, a parcel bomb conceals its threat, instilling fear. The tragic incident had resulted in two fatalities and seized the country's attention.

In the video, Punjilal is seen openly confessing to the crime and detailing the methodology behind the device's assembly. He compares the triggering mechanism to the automatic light inside a refrigerator—activated upon opening, much like his parcel bomb.

During a detailed probe, the accused explained that the inspiration for his actions stemmed from theatrical plays he witnessed in his youth. Despite his attempts during the demonstration to avoid punishment, he has repeatedly outlined his techniques.

Following an exhaustive seven-year investigation encompassing a 2,000-page chargesheet and over 60 witness testimonies, legal proceedings have concluded. The Additional District Judge (ADJ) of Patnagarh's final judgment is scheduled for announcement on the 28th.

“I will show you the demo (of how to make a parcel bomb) a hundred times, but will not do so before anyone else. You should not reveal to anybody that I have done it before you. I am showing this demo for your confidence. I would repeat the act as many times as you tell me. However, I will never show before anyone else,” Punjilal had told former IG Bothra.

“I do admit that I have committed the crime,” Punjilal had confessed.
