Paramita Satpathy Tripathy takes charge as Odisha’s Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax

Senior Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer and celebrated author Paramita Satpathy Tripathy took charge as Odisha’s Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (PCCIT) on Wednesday, succeeding Manoranjan Panigrahy.

The 1989-batch IRS officer, renowned for her administrative acumen and literary contributions, steps into the role with over three decades of governance experience.

Notably, Tripathy, who was empanelled for the PCCIT rank in March 2024 alongside 33 senior IRS officers, has held pivotal roles in Odisha’s Income Tax Department. Her career includes a six-year tenure as Director of Finance at the Odisha Power Generation Corporation Limited (OPGC), where she streamlined financial systems and institutional efficiency.

Eminent writer and now PCCIT

Beyond her administrative legacy, Tripathy is a luminary in Odia literature. Seven of her short-story collections, including the Sahitya Akademi Award-winning Prapti (2016), explore themes of social consciousness and human resilience.

It is also worth mentioning that in 2021, Paramita Satpathy received the prestigious 42nd 'Sarala Puraskar' for her novel 'Abhipreta Kala'.

Recent administrative reshuffles

The move comes as the Odisha government recently reshuffled key officials in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) cadre early this month. Aradhana Das, earlier Special Secretary to the government, Home Department, was appointed as Joint Secretary to the Department.

Similarly, Dharam Hansdah, Special Secretary to Government, Forest, Environment and Climate Change (MoFE&CC) Department, was appointed as Joint Secretary to Government of the same department. It should also be noted that along with this rejig, at least 30 senior officers from the Odisha Administrative Service (OAS) were earlier promoted to the IAS cadre, on April 1.
