OTV impact: OSPCB issues show-cause notice over unauthorized blasting in Malkangiri

The Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB) has issued a show-cause notice to a contractor firm over alleged illegal blasting and crusher installation at Tulasi Hill under Mathili block in Malkangiri district.  According to sources, the firm, identified as Haigriva, has been given 15 days to respond to the notice.

The action from the OSPCB came after OTV aired a news report highlighting the violations.

Acting on the information, the OSPCB has sought replies to five specific queries, including NOCs from the district Collector and local sarpanch, a detailed site report of the crusher location, and approvals from the Pollution Control Board,

Forest and Revenue departments.

Officials have warned that failure to furnish the required documents within the stipulated time will invite stringent measures.

On August 6, a joint raid by the Pollution Control Board, Mining Department, and Revenue Department had uncovered the illegal operations. The contractor was found carrying out blasting and installing a crusher without any statutory clearance.

As per the allegations, the contractor was cutting through hills and constructing roads, allegedly with the intent to break and extract large stones lying along the route. The crusher, which was installed without proper authorisation, was used to process these materials.
