The residents of Salachua Panchayat under the Kaptipada block of Mayurbhanj district are cock-a-hoop as power supply has been provided to their village after two years of darkness.

If OTV hadn’t carried a report on how we were suffering without electricity, our sufferings wouldn’t have come to an end, said the villagers. A new transformer was installed just three days after OTV carried a report highlighting their problem.

According to the villagers, the lone transformer in the area had caught fire and become dysfunctional two years ago. Since then the villagers of Purunadihi, Majhi Sahi, and Hudi Sahi have been living in darkness. They were experiencing a lot of problems including the children being unable to study at night.

The villagers said they had taken up the matter with the administration on several occasions but all in vain. As per the villagers, after OTV carried a story on their plight, their problem was solved.

“There being no electricity in our village, we were experiencing a lot of problems. A new transformer was installed after OTV carried a report on our plight. We are thankful to OTV,” said Jeta Sai, a Salachua resident.

When contacted, the Superintending Engineer of Tata Power Northern Odisha Distribution Limited, Harish Panda said, “Our job is to provide electricity. We are thankful to you (OTV) for letting us know the problem of the villagers. Within two days, we installed a new transformer and the power supply has been restored.”
