After the successful completion of four months training, certificates were given to as many as 25 meritorious students having poor financial backgrounds in a special programme under the OTV Cares initiative at the Human Life Centre in Bhubaneswar.
The training was provided to the students in a bid to make them self-reliant. As part of the training, the students were taught computer data entry and spoken English.
OTV Chief Financial Officer (CFO) SK Maiti and Director of Human Life Centre Father Jerome Sequeira presented the certificates to the students after completion of their four-month training programme.
“OTV did a great job by bringing students from different backgrounds across Odisha. It was a different kind of exposure for them. They have read in schools, but here the teaching method was different. Initially, they faced a little bit of difficulty in speaking. But, they learnt faster by following others,” said Sequeira.
“English is not our mother tongue. Therefore, the students were initially making mistakes. We corrected them gradually. After the initial fear, they are now able to speak fluently. Now they are giving speeches confidently on the stage which is not that easy,” said Mousimi Patnaik, a teacher at Human Life Centre.
After completing their training and getting certificates, the students expressed their gratitude to OTV.
“Many thanks to OTV. When I was giving interviews earlier, the employers used to ask me for data entry certificates which I didn’t have. Thanks to OTV for providing us the opportunity to take part in the brilliant training programme. Because of the training program, I am now able to speak English confidently,” said Smrutirekha, a student.
“I am thankful to OTV for giving me the opportunity. After taking part in the four-month training programme, my confidence level is sky-high now,” said Rastalina, another student.
