Odisha CM reaching North Block for talks with Union Minister Shah
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi unveiled a plan on Wednesday to fill around 12,000 vacant positions of policemen. The announcement came after his meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi.
The CM stated that the recruitment drive focuses on enhancing the State's law enforcement capacity.
During his time in New Delhi, the CM visited the North Block for talks with Union Minister Shah. The discussions primarily covered law and order issues, with a particular emphasis on addressing the staffing gaps within the police forces.
Besides addressing vacancies, CM Majhi touched on issues such as traffic management and cybercrime. The State government is making a concerted effort to address these issues, focusing on timely recruitment—a priority that, according to Majhi, had been neglected by the previous government.
Furthermore, the CM highlighted that the issue of the Maoist movement has been significantly diminished; now affecting 10 districts alone.
“During the previous government, a shortfall was there in filling several vacant positions of police personnel including officials in the Home Department. Our government has decided to expedite the filling up of vacancies, after coming to power,” the CM said.
“We are about to fill up around 12,000 vacant positions. The vacancies include Odisha Special Striking Force (OSSF)(3,003 posts), Odisha Industrial Security Force (OISF)(3,000 posts), traffic police (2,000 posts), home guard (5,000 posts), prosecution cadre (267 posts), forensic (254 posts), and others,” the CM stated in a presser.
Notably, the State is to constitute its own industrial security force soon.
