The Odisha Police has announced the recruitment of 23 Special Police Officers (SPOs) on a contractual basis. Applications must be submitted to respective IGP or DIGP offices by 27 February, 2025. Selection includes physical tests and interviews.

The Odisha Police has issued an official notification for the recruitment of 23 Special Police Officers (SPOs) on a contractual basis. 

Eligible candidates must submit their applications to the concerned Range Inspector General of Police (IGP) or Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) offices before the deadline on February 27, 2025, by 5:30 PM. 

The notification further states that incomplete applications or those received after the deadline will be rejected.

Total Vacancy: 23 Posts

  • DIG of Police, Central Range, Cuttack: 5 posts

  • IG of Police, NCR, Talcher: 2 posts

  • DIG of Police, ER, Balasore: 3 posts

  • IG of Police, SR, Berhampur: 3 posts

  • IG of Police, NR, Sambalpur: 7 posts

  • DIG of Police, WR, Rourkela: 3 posts

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Must be a permanent resident of Odisha.

  • Age limit: Should not exceed 62 years as of the date of advertisement publication.

  • Must be proficient in speaking, reading, and writing Odia.

  • Should have an unblemished service record.

  • Should not have any criminal convictions or major departmental punishments during their service.

  • Must not have any pending criminal cases.

  • Should not have more than one spouse living.

  • Must have served in the State Police, Central Armed Police Force, or Armed Forces in an equivalent rank of Asst. Sub-Inspector / Sub-Inspector / Deputy Subedar / Sergeant / Inspector of Police.

Additionally, selected candidates will be required to sign an agreement for re-employment on a contract basis, not exceeding one year. The contract will be renewed based on satisfactory performance and the requirement of services. However, no candidate will be re-employed after attaining the age of 64 years.

Pay Scale & Allowances

The salary structure for SPOs based on their previous rank is as follows:

  • Retired Asst. Sub-Inspector or equivalent rank : Rs 16,000 per month

  • Retired Sub-Inspector/Deputy Subedar/Sergeant : Rs 17,000 per month

  • Retired Inspector or equivalent rank: Rs 19,000 per month

Additional Allowances:

  • Kit Maintenance Allowance: Rs 75 per month

  • Clothing Allowance : Rs 3,856 per annum

Selection Process & Examination Details

The selection test for SPO recruitment will be held at the concerned Range Headquarters on March 18, 2025, at 7:30 AM. The process includes:

  • Verification of original documents

  • Medical examination

  • Physical test

  • Interview

Medical & Physical Tests

Candidates must pass a medical fitness test conducted by a designated Medical Board, whose decision will be final. Individuals with physical deformities will not be eligible for appointment. Furthermore, candidates must be physically capable of performing field duties involving hard labor for at least 8 hours a day in any shift, including night duty.

As part of the physical test, candidates must complete a 5-kilometer run within one hour. Failure to meet this criterion will lead to disqualification.

Interview Round

Candidates clearing the physical test will be assessed in a final interview by the Selection Board, which will evaluate their suitability for the post of Special Police Officer.

Required Documents

  • Applicants must submit self-attested copies of the following documents along with their application form:

  • Two passport-sized photographs (self-attested)

  • Certificates supporting age and educational qualifications

  • Discharge certificate (self-attested copy)

  • Two character certificates attested by different Group-B Gazetted Officers
