Govt offices of Hirakud Dam’s three engineers attached for delay in payment to contractors
In a major development, a local court has directed to attach the properties belonging to three government offices in Sambalpur after they allegedly failed to clear the outstanding bills of a contractor.
According to sources, the court’s directive came after the contractor approached the legal system for justice.
The properties to be attached include the offices of the Chief Engineer, the Superintendent Engineer of Hirakud Dam, as well as the Executive Engineer’s office. The court has ordered the attachment of both movable and immovable assets of these offices, sources added.
Following the court’s ruling, the process of property attachment has commenced. The offices, located in Burla, are now under legal scrutiny as authorities execute the court’s directives, said sources.
Legal experts have noted that this action serves as a warning to government agencies to ensure timely payment of dues to contractors and avoid legal consequences.
The matter has sparked discussions among officials and contractors, raising concerns over financial management in public works departments. The attachment process is expected to continue until further legal resolution is reached.
