Kendrapara woman poisoned after engagement by fiance’s girlfriend
In a distressing incident, a young woman was allegedly poisoned after her engagement ceremony with a spurious drink at Damarpur village under Pattamundai block in Kendrapara district on Thursday.
The victim has been identified as Parvin who is the daughter of Kaifat Ali.
The accused is reportedly a woman said to be the girlfriend of the man engaged to the victim.
It has been learnt that the accused is an elderly woman and mother of two children.
The victim, who is currently in a critical condition, was initially rushed to Pattamundai hospital. Subsequently, she was shifted to Kendrapara District Headquarters Hospital as her condition deteriorated.

Pattamundai Police has detained two suspects, including the woman alleged to have poisoned the beverage.
Meanwhile, members of the village community have vocally expressed their anger by assaulting the young man.
Pattamundai Police has launched an investigation into the shocking incident to establish a clear understanding of the events leading up to the poisoning.
As per the allegation, the accused identified as Jasmin came to Parvin’s house when all of her family members were away for the engagement work. Jasmin allegedly gave a cold drink mixed with poison to Parvin. After consuming the beverage, Parvin felt uneasy. Subsequently, some villagers came to Parvin’s house and detained the accused with another man.
“The victim’s family members had gone to Pattamundai for her engagement. However, a woman came to her house and poisoned the girl by giving her cold drinks,” said a villager.
