Odisha Vigilance Nets 2 More Government Babus, Total 3 In A Day
The Odisha Vigilance Department has registered over 200 criminal cases and apprehended 181 individuals, including government officers and officials for their involvement in various corruption and disproportionate asset (DA) cases.
According to a release shared by the anti corruption agency, cases have been registered against 50 Class-I officers, including six Chief Engineers, a Joint Commissioner of Excise, a Deputy Director of Fisheries, two Assistant Commissioners of CT & GST, a Jail Superintendent, a Sub-Collector, two Tahasildars, two BDOs, and several others in this year.
Similarly, 19 engineers, 22 revenue officials, 20 PR&DW officials, nine police officers, five doctors, three forest officials and three ICDS functionaries have been arrested by the Vigilance on various corruption charges in 2024.
The department also made notable headway in tackling disproportionate assets (DA) cases, registering 60 such cases and unearthing assets worth over Rs 131 crore. Vigilance also cracked down on bribery, registering 96 trap cases where 115 people, including 99 government officers, were caught while accepting bribes amounting Rs 19.25 lakh.

In terms of investigation, the department carried out searches at 483 locations, froze 792 bank accounts of corrupt public servants.
As many as 194 buildings and projects valued at approximately Rs 27.03 crore were evaluated. Additionally, 38 spouses were made co-accused in various DA cases. The investigation team successfully completed probes in 307 cases, achieving a disposal rate of 154%, which is said to be the highest ever recorded.

Similarly, the Odisha Vigilance department registered a conviction rate of 50 per cent with nearly 105 convictions. The conviction rate in DA cases is said to be around 80 percent.
Following conviction in several cases, as many as 25 government functionaries were dismissed from their respective service.
