Minister Sampad Swain
The Odisha government has unveiled ambitious plans for the development of four major industries in Kendrapara, with an approximate investment of Rs 28,355 crore. This announcement was made by Industries Minister Sampad Chandra Swain during the Jambudweep Mahotsav held at Ramanagar in the Mahakalpara block.
The district is gearing up for a significant transformation as ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel (AMNS) is working towards setting up a steel plant in Mahakalpara, Swain noted. He emphasised the government's focus on infrastructure improvements to position Kendrapara as both a national and global industrial hub.
“Without the development of Kendrapara, neither Odisha nor India can progress,” he asserted. The government is keen to foster collaboration between Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and larger industries to cultivate a strong industrial ecosystem.
The 149-year-old Hukitola building on Jambu island, surrounded by mangrove forests and linked to Odisha's maritime history, is slated for restoration and development as a significant tourism site. Additionally, a bridge over the Nasi River at Kharinashi is planned to connect to the 188-year-old False Point lighthouse on Batighar island, one of the oldest lighthouses in the Indian subcontinent.
Swain also disclosed plans for a master scheme aimed at upgrading the historic Maa Ramachandi temple in Ramanagar to improve its attraction to tourists and devotees. This would include infrastructure enhancements such as better roads, a boundary wall, and sustainable water facilities.
On the healthcare front, Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling announced plans for a new medical college in Kendrapara, aiming to boost healthcare facilities in the region. The announcements were made in the presence of Mahakalpara MLA Durga Prasan Nayak and Additional District Magistrate Nilu Mohapatra.
