The long wait of the workers of now-defunct Odisha Textiles Mill (OTM) at Choudwar came to an end on Saturday as they received their outstanding wages.
In the first phase, a total of Rs 38,28,881 was paid to 11 workers towards their wages.
Notably, notice had been issued to make payment to 108 workers and staff of the mill. Payments will be made to the rest of the workers.
Meanwhile, the workers are cock-a-hoop after getting their dues after a long wait of 22 years.
“I joined OTM in 1966. Our struggle spanning over 22 years came to an end. I received Rs 5,01,000,” said Abhay Charan Bhuyan.
On the other hand, official liquidator Himanshu Sekhar said the process of making payment will soon complete.
“To receive payments, they (workers) should provide ticket numbers, PF numbers, identity cards or AADHAR cards for identification and bank account details,” informed official liquidator Himanshu Sekhar.
Applicants’ counsel Trilochan Barik said, “The process of making payments has started. Notices are being issued to the workers. Meanwhile, some have already received their money. The liquidator has informed that the process would complete within two weeks. The court has fixed December 21 for the next hearing.”
