In a matter of pride, Odisha’s tableau that participated in the Republic Day parade in Delhi has been adjudged the best among the tableaux of states/UTs. This year, the Odisha tableau featured a model of the heritage crafts village of Raghurajpur with messages on women empowerment.

The tableau showcased the wonderful craftsmanship and artistry through Raghurajpur pattachitra and handicrafts. Moreover, it highlighted women empowerment in rural areas through cottage industries. The tableau model was prepared under the supervision of Gajendra Sahoo.

In his reaction, Sahoo had said, “The tableau participated after three years. During model preparation, it appeared that it was different from others. The students, who were performing Sambalpuri dance, were filled in with enthusiasm.”

Every artisan and others, who were part of the tableau, had worked hard in freezing cold conditions in Delhi, he added.

“I thank these children who were part of the team as they really worked hard. The award is certainly for Odisha people. There were 32 people in the team including carpenters, pattachitra painters, and artists. Fourteen children were part of the dance troupe,” said Sahoo.

Apart from Odisha, the tableau of Gujarat won the first prize in the people’s choice category. The tableau of the Ministry of Culture has been adjudged the best tableau amongst ministries and departments.
