Odisha software engineer’s body sent to Bengal in shocking mix-up
A shocking incident of body misplacement has come to light in Balasore district. When the family of a deceased youth opened his coffin, they were stunned to find another person’s body inside.
The incident reportedly involved Rakesh Shaw, a 21-year-old software engineer from Mulisingh village in Soro. Rakesh had been working in a software company in Bengaluru for the past three years. Last Sunday, while in his room, he suffered an electric shock. He was immediately admitted to a private hospital, but unfortunately, he passed away on Friday.
Following the post-mortem, his father identified the body and brought it to the Bengaluru airport for transport to Odisha. However, due to an error at the airport, the bodies got exchanged. The coffin marked with Rakesh’s name was flown to Balasore, but when the family opened it at home, they discovered the body of another man.

Upon inquiry, it was revealed that the body actually belonged to a resident of Siliguri, West Bengal, and that Rakesh’s body had mistakenly been sent there.
Both families have since agreed to exchange the bodies, and the matter has been formally reported to Soro police station. Meanwhile, Rakesh’s family has urged the government to ensure that their son’s body is returned to them without further delay.
