Odisha shocker! Mentally unstable woman raped, stabbed; probe launched

In a shocking incident, a mentally unstable woman was allegedly raped and stabbed with a knife at Itamati in Nayagarh district on Wednesday night.

The injured woman has been admitted to the Nayagarh District Headquarters Hospital in critical condition.

As per the allegations, the woman was sleeping beside the road in her village when the accused named Panda raped her and left her on the road after stabbing her with a sharp weapon.

The woman’s family members rushed her to the Nayagarh hospital after finding her in a pool of blood this (Thursday) morning.

IIC of Itamati Police Station, Dilip Swain said, “The victim is mentally unstable. Her family has complained that somebody has physically assaulted her after raping her late last night. The case is under investigation. I will be able to say more after completing the probe.”

The family of the woman demanded arrest of the accused as soon as possible and take exemplary action against him for committing the crime.

Reportedly, the police have initiated a probe after registering an FIR in this connection.

Till the last report came in, police had arrested the accused as per the complaint of the survivor's family members.
