Two arrested members of the inter-state lootera gang
Commissionerate Police on Sunday cracked down on an inter-state burglary gang operating in Odisha, arresting two key suspects from New Delhi. The arrests follow a robbery at a senior Income Tax (I-T) official’s house in Bhubaneswar’s Sahid Nagar locality.
The stolen items were fully recovered from their possession, a senior cop informed.
According to official sources, the Commissionerate Police-Bhubaneswar apprehended two members of the lootera gang operating in Odisha and several other states. The accused were nabbed from New Delhi following a meticulous probe into a high-profile robbery in Sahid Nagar of the State Capital.
The incident involved theft of valuables from the residence of an Income Tax department official. Following the robbery, police had initiated a detailed probe, which led them to New Delhi and the arrest of the two. The arrested individuals were found in possession of the stolen items that have since been recovered.
The gang had previously targeted several government officials and affluent households. Their operation involved scouting homes, bypassing security, and making quick getaways across state borders.
Arrested duo is currently being brought back to Bhubaneswar for further interrogation and legal proceedings. Commissionerate Police officials have confirmed that the probe is going on to trace other gang members who may still be at large.
“On July 21, we were informed that a government quarter under Sahid Nagar police limits was looted in broad daylight between 10.30 AM and 11.30 AM, when the house occupant was not present. After returning home, the occupant found around 230 grams of gold missing,” Twin City Police Commissioner, Suresh Dev Datta Singh, stated in a presser.
“Acting on an FIR, the Commissionerate Police had initiated a probe. After analysing digital evidence accumulated from nearby areas and activating manual sources, it was ascertained that a lootera gang active in New Delhi, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, and Bihar was involved in the crime,” the top cop expressed.
“Two persons have been arrested in this connection,” the Police Commissioner added.
