Odisha Deputy CM Pravati Parida’s mother passes away

Lobabati Parida, mother of Odisha's Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida, passed away at 90 in Bhubaneswar after a prolonged illness. Her final rites were performed in Nayahat village, Puri district. She had suffered brain stroke nearly a month ago.

Lobabati Parida, the mother of Odisha’s Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida, died on Wednesday night at the age of 90 following a prolonged illness related to ageing. Recently, she had also endured a brain stroke and had been receiving medical treatment.

The sad demise occurred in Bhubaneswar, where numerous dignitaries and party workers visited the family home to offer their condolences and pay their last respects.

A traditional procession featuring devotional songs escorted her body to the cremation site. The cremation took place at Nivaran crematorium in her native place Nayahat village in Puri district, with her final rites being performed by her surviving son, Santosh Parida.

“My mother was sick due to old age-related ailments. She had suffered a brain stroke nearly a month ago and has been battling for life since then. However, she succumbed yesterday at around 9.00 PM,” the Deputy CM’s brother Santosh Parida said to OTV.

“Residents of the village adore her like anything, which was quite noticeable to one and all. A number of people took part in her funeral procession,” Santosh Parida added.

Worth mentioning, the Deputy CM, around 58, is a resident of Nimapara. She completed her LLB at Utkal University in 1995 and enrolled as an advocate in Orissa High Court in Cuttack, the same year. Later, she earned her M.A. in Public Administration in 2005 from Utkal University. Her husband, Shyam Sundar Nayak, is a retired government servant.
