Odisha declares holiday for schools on Sep 9

The Odisha government on Wednesday announced a holiday for all schools across the State on September 9 (Monday) for the agrarian festival ‘Nuakhai’.

The School and Mass Education (S&ME) department of the State government issued a statement in this regard.

“All the government, government-aided and private schools under the department will remain closed on September 9 (Monday) for the Nuakhai festival,” read a notification issued on Wednesday by the I&PR Department.

Nuakhai is an agrarian festival which is celebrated mostly in Western Odisha with pomp and gaiety. As the famous festival is falling on Sunday, the government has decided to keep the schools closed on the following day.

Earlier, Odisha government had declared a holiday for all government offices and magisterial courts on Monday.
