Odisha college principal assaulted by faculty member, managing committee chief

In a shocking incident, the principal of Haladia Degree College, Umakant Patra was reportedly assaulted by the chief of the managing committee and a faculty member of the college. This unfortunate incident happened on Tuesday morning on the institution’s premises in Khurda district. 

In the purported CCTV footage, faculty member Bijaya Kumar Bhanja Deo could be seen barging into the principal’s chamber and shoving him. Then the altercation intensifies and later he could be seen slapping and manhandling the principal leaving the victim injured.

According to the principal, accused Bijaya was eyeing the principal post. "He barged into my chambers yelling at me to leave my position as the principal. I had advised him to contact the concerned official regarding the same but he and his cousin Ranjan Bhanja, who is the managing committee chief, along with a few people from their locality, physically assaulted me."
 

Upon further inquiring Umakant said, he had filed a police complaint against the assaulters and the police were waiting for his medical reports to take action. 

As per reports, Umakant was rescued by the local people and was immediately taken to a hospital for treatment. 

No comments were received from the police and the accused persons in the matter.
