Odisha CM Mohan Majhi
In a significant move towards decentralized governance, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday conducted a public grievance hearing in Sambalpur. It is for the first time that the CM’s grievance hearing has taken place outside the state capital, Bhubaneswar.
The event was held at the Sambalpur Municipal Corporation office, drawing a large gathering of local citizens eager to present their concerns directly to the state's top leadership.
From the early hours of the morning, hundreds of people assembled at the venue, many carrying files and documents, hoping to find a resolution to their long-pending issues. The Chief Minister Mohan Majhi listened patiently to the grievances, ranging from land disputes and housing problems to issues in healthcare, water supply, and infrastructure development.
The residents were given the option to submit their grievances both online and offline, ensuring wider accessibility and participation.
To ensure the event proceeded without any hurdles, the district administration made extensive preparations. Security arrangements were tightened, help desks were set up, and volunteers were deployed to guide the public and maintain order. Special counters were created for senior citizens and differently-abled persons to submit their grievances with ease.
A key highlight of the program was the presence of 13 senior IAS officers, including secretaries from major departments such as Home, Revenue, Housing & Urban Development, Health, and Family Welfare. These top-level officials not only attended the hearing but also took note of the grievances relevant to their departments, promising swift action and follow-up.
Speaking on the occasion, CM Majhi emphasized his government’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and public outreach. He said that by stepping out of Bhubaneswar and reaching the people directly, the government aims to bring the administration closer to the grassroots and ensure that no citizen feels unheard.
The Chief Minister also assured that such grievance hearings would be conducted in other districts in the coming months to make governance more inclusive and responsive.
