The Odisha cabinet on Friday approved a proposal to provide assistance of Rs 1000 for each of the 70 lakh SHG members in the state for their uniform.

The Cabinet meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik took the decision to provide Rs 1000 to the SHG members. This apart, as many as 1.5 lakh executive committee (EC ) and management committee (MC) members will get additional assistance of Rs 2000 each for blazers.

As per the official statement, “The Cabinet in its meeting approved financial assistance towards provisioning of uniform for all 70 lakh SHG members across the state and more than 1.5 lakh Executive Committee (EC) members of Gram Panchayat Level Federations (GPLFs), Block Level Federations (BLFs) & District Level Federations (DLFs) and Management Committee (MC) members of Area Level Federations (ALFs) under ULBs with a budgetary allocation of Rs. 730 crore during the FY 2023-24.” 

“Financial assistance to all Mission Shakti SHG members @Rs.1,000/- per SHG member will be provided to purchase a uniform of choice as per their group decision. Similarly, financial assistance of Rs. 2000/- per EC member of GPLFs, BLFs & DLFs / MC members of ALFs under Mission Shakti will be provided for the purchase of Blazers of their choice. This amount shall be deposited in the bank accounts of SHGs and Federations,” it added. 

Informing about decisions taken, Chief Secretary Pradeep Jena said, “The cabinet has approved all the 12 proposals of 10 departments.”

Meanwhile, the BJP criticised the cabinet decision on SHG assistance. Odisha BJP spokesperson, Anil Biswal said "What happened to the Mission Shakti scooter scheme. Instead of scooters, they are only giving Rs 1000 assistance. People of Odisha will give a befitting reply for such lies."
