Rashmi Ranjan

Bringing laurels for the State, Narayan Munda from Rourkela bagged a silver medal in the recently-concluded National Sailor Championship which was held in Goa.

Narayan, who secured second position in the national-level championship, is hopeful of winning a gold medal in his next event scheduled to be held in Chennai.

With an aim to represent India at the international level, Narayan is practicing in Mahanadi River and in the sea near Ramachandi in Puri.

Expressing his joy over his success, Narayan said, “I practice in Mahanadi or Puri. I secured the second position in the national event held in Goa. I am very elated. The next event will be held in Chennai and I am hopeful of clinching a gold medal.”

Overwhelmed with Narayan’s success, his coach Sabir Baux lauded his dedication and said he will try to make him ready for the Olympics.

“Though he hails from Rourkela, Narayan approached me and practiced in Ramchandi and Mahanadi. If he can give me his five years, I can make him ready for the Olympics. He is No 2 in India in the under-19 category,” an elated Baux said.
