An Assistant Engineer of the Rural Works Division in Sundargarh was arrested by Odisha vigilance in a Disproportionate Assets (DA) case for amassing assets to the tune of 333% of his known sources of income.

The assistant engineer has been identified as Sanjaya Kumar Behera.

As per the Vigilance, Behera has been forwarded to the court of the Special Judge, Vigilance in Sundargarh for possession of disproportionate assets, which he could not account for satisfactorily.

In this connection, a case has been registered against Behera and his spouse in Rourkela.

During house searches, the following movable and immovable assets were unearthed in the name of Behera, and his family members;

1- One double storeyed building with total area of 5,000 Square ft at Jagannathpur in Bhadrak town.

2- One single storeyed building at his native village in Bonth, Bhadrak.

3- Two Plots in Bhadrak and Jajpur Town.

4- Bank, postal deposits and insurance deposits worth approx Rs 1.67 Crores.

5- Gold jewellery weighing approximately 200 gm.

6- Cash, 2 two wheelers & household articles worth approx Rs 10.5 lakhs.

Apart from that, Behera has reportedly spent Rs 81.80 lakh on the medical education for his two children.

A vigilance press release said, “After thorough search, inventory and further enquiry, the income, expenditure and assets of Behera were calculated and he was found in possession of disproportionate assets which were 333% in excess of his known sources of income."

Investigation of the case is in progress.
