Odisha Assembly adjourned twice over ruckus by Opposition

The Odisha Assembly witnessed repeated adjournments on Thursday in view of disruptions and chaos by the Opposition BJD, and Congress members.

The Vidhan Sabha proceedings began on a somber note, with Deputy CM Pravati Pravida moving ahead with a proposal to observe a moment of silence in view of the unfortunate passing of ex-BJD MLA Debaraj Seth. Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik and the Congress also extended their note of condolence. However, the ruckus began with the commencement of the Question Hour.

Opposition members from the Congress caused chaos in the assembly with hooting and whistling. During an address by Minister for Health and Family Welfare Mukesh Mahaling, several Congress members took to the podium and rose from their seats, raising slogans.

Protest Over Atrocities Against Women:

The Opposition reportedly resorted to sloganeering, demanding replies from the government on atrocities against women. Congress members, wearing black armbands, raised strong protests over the recent suspension of its party leader, Tara Prasad Bahinipati.

As such, the House was first adjourned till 12 PM and again till 12:30 pm as the uproar by Opposition members did not stop despite repeated requests by the Speaker.
