Odia youth killed in Gujarat for not paying Rs 25,000, body dumped in washing machine; accused held

Manoj Sahu from Kendrapara was arrested by Gujarat Police for allegedly killing Gurucharan Pradhan from Cuttack over Rs 25,000. The victim's body was found in a washing machine.

An Odia youth has been arrested on the charges of killing another Odia youth and dumping his body in washing machine following some monetary dispute in Gujarat.

The accused, Manoj Sahu, originally from Jesuapalli Balisahi village in Mahakalpada of Kendrapara district, has been nabbed by Gujarat Police after a month-long investigation.

The deceased has been identified as Gurucharan Pradhan of Cuttack.

Background of the conflict

The conflict involved a sum of Rs 25,000 that Manoj was supposed to receive from Gurucharan Pradhan following a sale of a fridge. 

As per reports, the argument escalated on October 10 when Manoj allegedly struck Gurucharan with an iron rod after he allegedly refused to pay. Later, Manoj concealed Gurucharan his body within a washing machine before fleeing the scene.

Discovery and Arrest

A week later, local residents reported a foul odour from the house and alerted police.

The investigation initially began with police going through CCTV footage in the area. After getting some leads, a team of Gujarat police raided Aradi area in Odisha where the accused Manoj was staying.

“There was conflict over the payment of a fridge. Following the development, the accused killed the victim with an iron rod, and concealed the body in a washing machine and fled from the spot,” said a police official in Gujarat.

“He (Pradhan) had come to attack me with three persons. He died accidentally when I struck him,” said accused Manoj Sahu.
