Odia IPS officer Rashmi Ranjan Swain on Wednesday took charge as the in-charge Director General of Police (DGP) of Jammu and Kashmir. Swain assumed charge as the 17th DGP of Jammu and Kashmir at a special function held at the police headquarters in Srinagar today.

Upon his arrival, Swain was accorded a guard of honour at the police headquarters and took salute and inspected the guard of honour as well.

Rashmi Ranjan Swain hails from Odisha’s Rourkela. A 1991 batch IPS officer, Swain held key positions in the Jammu and Kashmir Police before assuming charge as the DGP.

As per official reports, Swain had also served as SDPO Kothi Bagh, SP Ramban, SP Kargil, SP Poonch, SSP Kathua, SSP Jammu, DIG Vigilance among other key posts. Swain went on Central deputation in November 2006 and held key positions.

In June 2020, Swain joined the Jammu and Kashmir Police as the head of the CID wing and today took over as the DGP Jammu and Kashmir.

Official sources said that Swain chaired a meeting at the PHQ soon after assuming charge. The meeting was attended by several senior officials.
