In a significant development in the Balasore FM College girl student's death case, the Orissa High Court on Tuesday stated that there is no requirement for a Special Investigation Team (SIT).
This observation was made during a hearing of public interest litigation. After reviewing the status report submitted by the Crime Branch detailing the progress of the investigation, the High Court expressed satisfaction with the ongoing probe.

Meanwhile, the Court has issued notices to both the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and the Congress for allegedly disrupting public life by calling for strikes in response to the incident.
The Crime Branch team continued its investigation at FM College on Tuesday. The investigating team questioned the in-charge officials and some staff members of the college in connection with the tragic incident.
The Crime Branch official also conducted measurements at the site where the victim was found burnt on the day of the incident. The team inspected areas covered by CCTV cameras to gather additional evidence.
The investigating team had interrogated the in-charge official and staff of the college for nearly three hours as part of their inquiry on Monday.
"Honourable High Court was satisfied that the ongoing investigation into the FM girl student's death case is being conducted properly. The Court stated in its order that SIT is not required for the probe. The Court issued notice to BJD and Congress for disrupting public life by calling for strikes in response to the incident," said petitioner Shibshankar Mohanty.
