Mystery still shrouds the death of Laxmi Majhi in Rayagada's Chandrapur even though Crime Branch has started a probe into the sensational case.

The Crime Branch joined the probe on Friday by carrying out an investigation at the ‘Maa Gruha’ where Majhi (Deceased) was working as a warden.

The CB team reportedly questioned four of her colleagues and the Director of the Organisation, Nrusinghanath Mohapatra. It has also questioned her neighbours in this connection, sources said.

DSP Narendra Behera is leading the Crime Branch team which also comprises 10 personnel from State Forensic Lab.

Following the initial probe, the Crime Branch is reportedly suspecting that Majhi was actually murdered elsewhere and was set on fire near the Maa Gruha to destroy the evidence.

A local tribal girl, Majhi’s half-charred body was found in the Maa Gruha located in the premises of Chandrapur Medical on December 21 night.

Majhi, who was a divyang was working at the Maa House as a warden for the last five years after getting recruited by a social organisation named Alisha.

She was allegedly set ablaze by unknown miscreants. An FIR was filed at the Chandrapur police station by her father on December 22 alleging murder.

It is pertinent to mention here that, the police have not disclosed the post-mortem report of Majhi even after nine days of her death and eight days after the FIR which has deepened the ongoing mystery surrounding her death.

Meanwhile, Adivasi Mahasangha, a tribal outfit has threatened to observe a bandh in Rayagada district if the accused involved in the case are not arrested at the earliest.
