KISS in Bhubaneswar
After KIIT University, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) may investigate into serious allegations involving the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) in Bhubaneswar, following claims of rights violations brought forth by Right to Information (RTI) activist Pratap Mohanty.
Mohanty has reportedly expressed concerns about the alleged failure to adhere to the Juvenile Justice Act, questioning why it has not been consistently applied despite multiple notifications. The welfare of children at KISS has been cited as a priority matter.
The founder of KISS- Achyuta Samanta, was also a Member of Parliament of the Biju Janata Dal. RTI activist Mohanty alleged that this political connection may have led to regulatory oversight being ignored.

The activist also accused KISS of illegally occupying 82 acres of IDCO land, and forest land. This allegation has ecological and legal implications and has been reportedly submitted to the NHRC.
As per sources, RTI activist Mohanty has relayed all these concerns to the NHRC. The Commission has reportedly assured a thorough investigation into the allegations against KISS.
"I came to know from the media that the NHRC team has urged the public to provide information related to the KIIT incident. I have some documents about the failure of KISS in adhering to the Juvenile Justice Act and in taking proper care of the students despite multiple notifications. KISS authorities have also encroached 82 acres of IDCO, and forest land. I have provided the additional documents to NHRC in this regard," said Mohanty.
"I have requested the NHRC to launch an investigation into the incidents also. They have assured me to carry out a proper investigation into the matter," he added.
