In a worrisome incident, a newborn girl allegedly became a victim of what appeared to be gender discrimination in Bargarh district on Wednesday. The baby was reportedly found abandoned on the steps of Godabhagar Shiv temple in the district.

Till the time of filing of this report, no clarity had emerged on who dumped the baby there and why. 
Meanwhile, police started an investigation into the matter, sources said.

As per reports, when the priest of the Godabhagar Shiv temple came early in the morning, he heard the cries of the baby. The baby was wrapped in clothes. 

The priest immediately informed local residents about the matter. On being informed about the incident, police rushed to the place and rescued the baby. 

No comments were received from the police.

A similar incident was reported a few days ago in Bolangir. A newborn baby girl was found lying in the toilet of Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital in Bolangir on September 9. It was learned that the mother of the baby abandoned her child after delivery at the hospital.
