At a time when International Day of the Girl Child is celebrated across the globe on Wednesday, some shocking instances pertaining to negligence and scorning of girl children have surfaced in Odisha. 

In a tragic incident, a woman allegedly choked her three-day-old daughter to death at a slum near Champajhar Park area under Tamka police station in Jajpur district on Wednesday.

As per reports, the wife of Rabindra Mahanta allegedly killed her newborn girlchild after getting frustrated as she gave birth to her second daughter.

Tamka police arrested the accused and launched an investigation into the incident.

In another shocking incident, an abandoned newborn girl child was rescued near a bush at Muktidhipa village under Bhasma police station under Sundargarh district on Wednesday.

However, local people traced the mother, who was on the run after giving birth to the baby, and handed her over to the police along with the girl child.

Moreover, in another unfortunate incident, a man ran away from the hospital after his wife gave birth to a girl child at Chandbali Hospital in Bhadrak district.

As per reports, Mohan Sahu’s wife Anima from Matomala village in the district had earlier given birth to a girl child. She gave birth to another girl child at the hospital. Following the development, Mohan ran away from the hospital leaving his wife and daughter. Subsequently, Anima’s father took the mother and the newborn baby to his house.
