A newborn baby boy, who had allegedly been abandoned by his parents for him being a Divyang one, was rescued from a private hospital by the childline with the help of police. The shocking incident was reported from Berhampur on Sunday.
According to a source, a couple fled a private hospital leaving their newborn divyang boy behind in the hospital’s toilet. The baby was born on June 7. After getting information, child line officials reached the hospital only to find the staff as non-cooperative. Then, they sought the help of the Baidyanathpur police. Later, they with the help of the police rescued the baby from the toilet.
Since the condition of the baby was critical, he was admitted to the special newborn care unit (SNCU) of the MKCG Medical and Hospital in Berhampur.
Meanwhile, the police verified the hospital’s documents and counselled the parents. It is learnt that the parents realised their mistake and agreed to take their baby with them. They said they had abandoned the baby because the child has problems with its spinal cord and excess fluid in the brain and they can’t afford the treatment cost as they are migrant labourers.
“BN Pur Police station informed us that a couple fled the hospital leaving behind their newborn baby because he is a divyang one. When reached the private hospital, the staff didn’t cooperate with us. Then we sought the police help. Then we rescued the baby from a toilet. As the condition of the baby was not well, we admitted it at the SNCU of MKCG Medical and Hospital in Berhampur,” informed child line member Sibashankar Das.
