People gather in front of police station
Around 200 tourists from Odisha allegedly had a harrowing time in West Bengal when some people not only detained them but also damaged their vehicle on Tuesday.
As per reports, around 50 tourists in three SUVs from Mitrapur in Balasore’s Nilagiri area had gone to Khadika under Keshpur police limits in Medinipur district of West Bengal. They apart, some other tourists from Balasore had also gone there in two buses.
The tourists alleged some people had detained them and damaged the windshield of their bus.
At the time of filing this report, Keshpur police is learnt to have rescued the tourists.
“They had detained us and damaged the windshield of the buses. The police have rescued us. We are now in the police station. Meanwhile, people have gheraoed the police station. They had detained us alleging that some residents of West Bengal are being harassed in Odisha after being branded as Bangladeshi nationals,” narrated Sandeep Panigrahi, one of the tourists stuck in West Bengal.
