National Flag not hoisted on Independence Day, angry parents lock Anganwadi centre

Tension prevailed in Fakirpur after parents locked the Dehuri Sahi Anganwadi Centre on Monday, alleging mismanagement and negligence in its functioning.

According to the protesting parents, the centre has been operating in an unhygienic environment, while irregularities have also been reported in both teaching activities and food distribution for children. The parents further alleged that on Independence Day, the Anganwadi worker failed to hoist the National Flag, which added to their resentment.

“Kids had come to the centre. However, they were sent away with biscuits and sweets. They did not hoist the National Flag,” alleged a parent.

Agitated over these issues, the parents put the centre under lock and key for some time, demanding corrective action from the authorities.

Meanwhile, the Anganwadi worker has strongly denied the allegations. She maintained that all activities at the centre, including teaching, child care, and food distribution, are being carried out smoothly and as per guidelines.

“I arrived at the Centre at around 6:30PM. We performed all the rituals in the presence of the children, who were later safely escorted to their homes. There was a bit delay in hoisting the National Flag. Every year, we hoist the flag, but due to personal reasons, I went back home early this year,” the Anganwadi worker stated.

The incident has sparked debate in the locality, with parents pressing for accountability while the administration is yet to respond to their grievances.
