Screengrab of Naba Das' assassination
Major discrepancies have surfaced in the murder of former BJD minister Naba Das, raising serious questions about the investigation by the Crime Branch. These fresh revelations cast doubt over the integrity of the evidence collection process by the police and Crime Branch.
A significant inconsistency has come to the fore concerning the colour of a vital piece of evidence. Investigators probing the murder have drawn scrutiny due to lapses in evidence handling.
The prime witness Shubhendu Patnaik was seen wearing a yellow shirt at the time of a notable incident. According to the property seizure list, a yellow shirt, reportedly stained with blood, was confiscated. However, the shirt colour mysteriously has been changed to white in the Crime Branch reports.
These findings raise serious concerns about the handling of the case by the state Crime Branch. Questions surrounding this inconsistency are amplified by the mysterious disappearance of Naba Das’ blood-stained shirt after the shooting.
Moreover, questions have also been raised on the eight bullets that hit Naba Das and his convoy with cartridges of several bullets yet to be found. This has led to speculations of snipers being hired to eliminate the former Minister.
The case is getting murkier each day and more skeletons keep tumbling out as Naba Das’ family seeks a CBI probe into the incident. On the other hand, the investigation team has failed miserably to address the discrepancies in the case.
Here are a few questions that are raised against Crime Branch and its probe:
1. Is the Crime Branch trying to hide something?
2. Who fired the fourth shot?
3. Where are the cartridges?
4. Where is the bullet that hit Naba Das and its cartridge?
5. Gopal Das admitted to not firing the fourth round. So who fired the remaining shots?
6. Who was the other person/persons that shot the remaining bullets.
7. Is there a bigger conspiracy in the case?
8. Who are all involved in the high-profile case?
