The Opposition parties in Odisha continue to train guns on the state government over the chargesheet filed by the Crime Branch in the Naba Das murder case. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday claimed that there is nothing in the chargesheet filed by the Crime Branch.

Opposition Chief Whip, Mohan Majhi said that "In the Crime Branch chargesheet, there is no mention of the bullet and whether it was the same which was fired from the gun of Gopal Das or it was some other bullet that hit Naba Das. This shows that attempts are being made to save the accused Gopal Das."

Apart from this, there is no mention of any conspiracy angle in the chargesheet, and section 120 of the IPC has also not been included, he stated. The BJP also said that no probe has been initiated by the Crime Branch over the party’s allegations and demands for the examination of call records of two senior BJD leaders. As the state government is involved in the brutal assassination, attempts are being made to suppress the matter, Majhi alleged.

“Were the call records of senior BJD leader Bobby Das and Bhatli MLA Susanta Singh investigated? Will the state government show courage to hand over the probe to CBI?” questioned Majhi.

On the other hand, State Law Minister, Jagannath Saraka said, “The department is reviewing the chargesheet and will see what can be done after a detailed review.”

Recently, the crime branch filed a 543-page chargesheet in the court of JMFC, Jharsuguda against dismissed ASI Gopal Das.

In the chargesheet, the probe team reportedly mentioned that the former minister was killed by Gopal Das over a personal grudge. The accused has been charged under Sections 307, 302, and 27 (1) of the Arms Act.
