Naba Das murder accused sought transfer to Choudwar jail: Prisons DG

Did Naba Das murder accused Gopal Das apprehend threat to life? The possibility cannot be ruled out as Gopal reportedly sought transfer from Jharsuguda sub-jail to Choudwar jail in Cuttack.

Following completion of the Crime Branch remand Gopal Das was shifted to Choudwar jail on Tuesday.

According to DG Prisons, Manoj Kumar Chhabra, Gopal himself had sought the transfer and made the request before the court.

The shifting process began on Tuesday after the Jharsuguda JMFC Court granted the permission.

Speaking to reporters, Chhabra said, “We are shifting him after getting permission from the court. And we are taking all the precautions as per the rules.”

"He (Gopal) himself asked to get shifted from Jharsuguda. Even we thought the same. It will be good if he is shifted to a jail where all kinds of facilities are available,” Chhabra added.

As far as the Choudwar jail is concerned, Gopal will be put under tight security and under 24*7 CCTV surveillance.

"Choudwar is a bigger jail and it will be a better option as far as security and medical facilities are concerned,” said Jail DIG, Subhrakanta Mishra.

“Gopal’s physical and mental checkup was done before shifting to Choudwar,” Mishra informed.

Naba Das murder case is subjudice at Jharsuguda court. So Gopal will appear for hearings through video conferencing from Choudwar jail.
