A bronze statue of King Jajati has mysteriously vanished from its site near the newly-built Shiva temple close to the Baraha Temple in Jajpur district. Installed previously by the district’s Tourism Department, the statue’s disappearance has led to widespread curiosity and speculation among local residents and intellectuals, sources said on Tuesday.
Speculations persist about the fate of the statue, those responsible for its removal, and their motives.
Visitors at the site near Baraha Temple were being impressed by the statue enshrining King Jajati’s visage, hands, a horse, and a sword. Its current absence has left the community in disbelief and brimming with questions about the events that led to its disappearance.
District officials have acknowledged that they lack clarity concerning which division financed the statue’s installation under the previous government and are equally uncertain about the statue’s intended location.
Local residents and intellectuals alike have called on the district administration to undertake a thorough probe to unveil any concealed details surrounding this incident.
The statue’s disappearance coincides intriguingly with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi’s recent visit to Jajpur on February 8, when he inaugurated the medical college in Jajpur and declared its renaming to Maharaja Jajati Keshari Medical College and Hospital.
The timing of this occurrence has only intensified public interest and speculation about the statue’s whereabouts.
Emphasis remains on uncovering the location of the missing statue of King Jajati Keshari, as the district administration faces increasing pressure to solve this enigmatic case.
When contacted, Jajpur Additional Collector Suvendu Samal stated, “Both construction and beautification works are going on there. I do not know if any statue was brought for use. However, I will look into it and will enquire the whereabouts.”
“I will ask the executing agency (NPCC) about the beautification plan and enquire about the disappearance,” the Additional Collector expressed.
