After the opening of the outer and inner chambers of the Puri Srimandir Ratna Bhandar, all eyes are now set on LASER scanning and GPRS survey to ascertain if there is a secret chamber and a tunnel.
The inner and outer treasuries of Srimandir have been opened and all the valuables have also been shifted to their respective temporary strong rooms. Yet there are some mysteries still shrouding the Ratna Bhandar.
People’s curiosity to know whether or not there is a secret chamber or a tunnel in the inner Ratna Bhandar is only increasing. After Puri King Gajapati Maharaja Dibyasingha Deb laid emphasis on LASER scanning, SJTA chief Arabinda Padhee said the SOP would be changed and permission would be sought from the government for the inspection.
Experts said there are such technologies that would not only trace out the secret chamber but also find metals under the floor or in the walls.

“While using Ground Penetrating Radar, a signal is sent. When the signal returns, it will create an image. Then, the technology detects the image and tells what that object is,” said, Santosh Kumar Das, associate professor, NIT, Rourkela.
As per Justice Biswanath Rath, the roof of the inner Ratna Bhandar is not in good condition. “The condition of the floor and walls of outer Ratna Bhandar is very bad. Similarly, the roof of the inner Ratna Bhandar is also in a pathetic state. They require repairmen and the ASI will definitely take it up,” said Rath.
