Odisha Health Minister and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader Naba Kishore Das was consigned to flames at Kherual in Jharsuguda on Monday. His son, Bishal Das lighted the funeral pyre to complete the last rites.

Following Das' death on Sunday night at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar, his body was taken in a procession to the Odisha Assembly where many party leaders paid their last respects to the Odisha leader.

His remains were then taken to his government quarters before taking it to the BJD party office on Monday morning where Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Governor Professor Ganeshi Lal paid tributes to the deceased leader.

Then, the body was flown to his home at Jharsuguda in the noon where thousands of his supporters and well wishers gathered and availed last darshan. Das' body was then taken to Manmohan school field in a procession and finally to Kherual where he was consigned to flames with full State honours.

Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Sunday declared a three-day State mourning after Das' demise.

Odisha Health Minister, Naba Kishore Das died after being shot at from close range by a police Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) named Gopal krushna Das posted at Gandhi chhak outpost in Brajarajnagar.

The Minister was rushed to Bhubaneswar by an air ambulance and admitted to a private hospital. But he succumbed to the bullet injuries while undergoing treatment on Sunday night.
