Screengrab from the viral video from KIIT University in Bhubaneswar
Tensions rose in and outside the KIIT University campus in Bhubaneswar after a B. Tech third-year female international student allegedly took her own life inside one of the hostels on Sunday evening.
Amid protests and a slew of controversial decisions made by the university management, a video clip, purportedly from inside the same hostel where the deceased resided, captured intense moments of heated discussions between teachers and students as well as a xenophobic remark that has now gone viral.

The purported video clip featured two teachers of KIIT University engaging in heated discussions with students from Nepal. At one point, the teachers asked the students to go wherever they felt safe while stating that the amount spent by the university on students' welfare was more than the national budget of Nepal.

“Do not insult the founder of this university. The man is feeding 40,000 students for free. Such an amount would even be more than your country’s entire budget,” the two KIIT teachers can be heard saying in the clip.
The can of worms spread further when the university released a notice this morning asking all students from Nepal to vacate its premises at the earliest. Further reports stated that buses left for the Cuttack railway station carrying several students from Nepal with instructions to leave for their homes but with no provision of tickets or accommodation.
Meanwhile, the case assumes immense importance and several students continue with their protests.
Additionally, Bhubaneswar DCP Pinak Mishra also stated that he took stock of the situation and has met all the demands of the students including proper collection of evidence. A post-mortem report is awaited, he added.
