Deputy CM Pravati Parida speaking to media
Odisha may soon witness a major shift in one of its prominent initiatives and accordingly, Mission Shakti programme is likely to be renamed as ‘Subhadra Shakti’. Deputy CM Pravati Parida indirectly hinted at the potential transformation on Friday.
Speculations are rife as ‘Subhadra Shakti Mela’ is scheduled to kick start in Bhubaneswar tomorrow evening, featuring the participation of women members across various self-help groups (SHGs) throughout Odisha.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi is set to inaugurate the fair at Janata Maidan, which will continue till March 2. Showcasing a diverse array of products crafted by SHG women, the fair aims to promote their creativity and skills. Items on offer include traditional handicrafts, terracotta and bamboo crafts, handwoven textiles, and a wide variety of organic foods, spices, sweets, and millet-based food items.
During the event, around 700 women from SHGs will have the opportunity to present their products in more than 300 stalls. This initiative forms a vital part of the State government’s strategy to economically empower women, potentially earning them the ambitious title of ‘Lakhpati Didi’, which denotes achieving significant financial independence.
Deputy CM Parida stated, “This initiative charts a new path towards women’s economic empowerment, aligning with our vision for a ‘Bikashita Odisha’ and a Viksit Bharat.”
“For the first time in the history of Odisha, ‘Subhadra Shakti Mela’ will kick start tomorrow (Saturday) evening. The nine-day grand fair will showcase more than 200 handicraft items, artworks, millet and organic products, food items and spices, terracotta, and bamboo crafts prepared by the SHG sisters (women members),” the Deputy CM said in a presser.
“Subhadra Shakti Mela will be a cluster of Shakti (empowerment), which will be a new and epoch-making step for women,” Deputy CM Parida expressed.
According to sources, this potential name change reflects a broader strategy to enhance the visibility and impact of the new initiative, underscoring the Government’s commitment to the financial empowerment of women.
