Mishap during BPCL gas pipeline repair work
A worker allegedly died after entering inside a sump during the gas pipeline repair work of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (BPCL) near Taladanda along the Cuttack-Paradip road on Friday.
As per reports, the worker had to enter inside the sump for some repair work of gas pipeline. However, he became unconscious after some time. Though he was rescued after two hours by the fire service personnel, he was found dead.
As per the allegation by other workers, the man died due to asphyxiation inside the sump.
“He (the worker) was directed to enter inside the sump as part of the repair work. He entered the sump after covering his nose and ears with a piece of cloth. However, he collapsed immediately after entering the sump. I cried for help and people gathered near the place in large numbers. However, he could not be saved,” said another worker.

Meanwhile, the family members of the deceased cried foul over lack of proper security measures at the workplace.
“We demand strong action against the officials who directed our boy to enter the sump without any proper security measures,” said a family member of the deceased.
Tension prevailed in the area following the tragic incident.
However, no reactions could be obtained from the company officials regarding the incident.
