Miscreants allegedly looted a Panchayat office in Koraput district and decamped with assets worth lakhs of rupees on Saturday night.
According to the police, the office building of Badasarapali Panchayat under Bandhugaon block is under construction. This is why the panchayat office was functioning from an Anganwadi centre near the Government Upper Primary School temporarily.
A gang of miscreants reportedly broke into the temporary panchayat office on Saturday night and looted assets including LED TV, computer, and CCTV cameras among others. They even didn’t spare important documents.
The peon of the panchayat office came to know about the burglary when he reached the office on Sunday morning. He found the lock broken and valuables missing. He immediately informed the Sarpanch who in turn registered a complaint at Bandhugaon Police Station.
On being informed, a team from Bandhugaon Police Station reached the spot, collected evidence, and launched a probe and a manhunt for the miscreants.
Meanwhile, locals have demanded early completion of the Panchayat office building.
