Miscreants loot cash, gifts, jewellery from marriage reception party in Puri

A marriage party reception turned nightmare for the groom’s family after the cash and jewellery gifted by friends and relatives were stolen from the venue on Monday evening. The incident was reported from a hotel at Baliapanda sahi in Puri.

As per reports, the groom’s family was holding the marriage reception party at a hotel where all the invitees gifted cash and jewellery to the bride and the groom.

At the end of the party, the groom’s family collected all the gifts and kept them in a bag. But they left the bag unattended for some time. After returning, they found the bag missing.

CCTV footage showed, two miscreants working in tandem to loot the jewellery bag from the reception venue. While one waited outside the hotel gate, another decamped with the bag from inside the hotel.

A complaint has been filed at Baliapanda police station following which the police have launched a probe in this connection.

Notably, robbers dressed as ‘Baratis’ had looted Rs 5 lakh cash and jewellery from a wedding mandap in Bhubaneswar on February 10, 2024.

They entered the venue dressed as baratis and fled with gold and cash received as gifts by the bride. The incident came to light when the bride’s kin found that the bag containing cash and gold items was missing.
