The body of a seven-year-old girl, who along with her family members had come to Jiliba village under Belaguntha police limits in Ganjam to attend her grandfather’s death rituals, was spotted in a village pond on Friday. 

The deceased has been identified as Adyasha Pradhan, daughter of Shankar Pradhan.

According to the bereaved family members, Adyasha with her family members had come to Jijiba village to attend her grandfather’s death rituals. On Thursday, the eleventh-day rituals were performed and Adyasha was seen till 7 pm after which she was untraceable. 

The family members launched a frantic search but to no avail. Eventually, they lodged a missing report at Belaguntha Police Station.

Today morning, some villagers spotted a girl’s body floating in the village pond. They immediately informed Shankar’s family who reached the spot and identified the body. 

On being informed, police reached the spot, fished out the body, and sent it for post-mortem. Registering an unnatural death case, they have launched a probe. 

“We found her missing at around 7 pm. We launched a frantic search for her. We kept searching for her till 3 am. Today morning, some villagers informed that her body was floating in the village pond,” said Shankar, father of the deceased girl.
